The first set of contestants to be on probation
at the ongoing MTN Project Fame sang their
hearts out on Saturday in an attempt to secure
their stay in the academy.
While Shola performed Michael Jackson’s ‘You
Are Not Alone,’ Clement opted for a rendition of
Michael Bolton’s ‘You Don’t Know What’s Like’.
Emeka sang Bryan Adam’s ‘To Love A Woman’
while David decided to improve on his delivery
of Fela’s ‘Lady.’
Unfortunately, at the end of the day, David
became the first evictee of the 7th edition of
the music reality show.
In a tribute to the late American pop queen,
actress and model, Whitney Houston, who died in
February 2012, the remaining twelve contestants
who were not on probation performed a medley
of some of her hit songs to a delighted audience.
Meanwhile, the excitement that followed the
great tribute and Tolu’s performance soon gave
way to some nervy moments as the hosts
announced that the four contestants would be
performing one more time to save themselves
from eviction.
Remarkably, however, the four contestants on
probation gave exceptional performances that
had the judges wondering.
As it is the tradition, the viewers, the judges
and the contestants not on probation must save
one person each from those on probation. But
before that, Tolu, an alumnus of the academy,
made a cameo appearance. He performed one of
his recent songs, ‘Beauty Lady’ which was warmly
received by the audience.
When the result of votes from the entire West
Africa audience was finally announced, Clement
emerged tops. Shola was the judges’ preference
while Emeka was the overwhelming favourite of
the other contestants. Consequently, David was
evicted.
David Olowojoba who hails from Ondo State,
Nigeria, expressed his gratitude for the
opportunity of a place in the academy, even if not
for as long as he would have wished. He assured
his fans that he would keep working hard to
break into the mainstream music industry.
